(WASHINGTON, DC) - Interior Secretary Gale Norton will unveil a new
public lands volunteer initiative today at the National Press Club's
Newsmaker Luncheon. The Secretary will then roll up her sleeves and
head for Watts Branch Park in the Anacostia section of Washington, D.C.,
where she and D.C. Mayor Anthony Williams will plant trees and clear
invasive species as part of the first project under the new program.
Secretary Norton will encourage
citizens, organizations, and state, local, and tribal governments to
work together to restore and enhance America's natural and cultural
resources.
Transportation
will be provided for members of the press from the National Press Club
to Heritage Park and back.
