National Park Service, Bureau of Land Management &
Bureau of Reclamation Join Interagency Service for Campground Reservations |
WASHINGTON - Secretary of the Interior Gale A. Norton today announced the addition of new sites to the National Recreation Reservation Service (NRRS), a federal interagency reservation service for outdoor recreation facilities and activities. "This is a great step forward in our efforts to provide recreation opportunities for visitors and to simplify vacation planning," said Norton. The National Recreation Reservation Service is currently providing reservation services for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the U.S. Forest Service. Starting now, campers seeking campground reservations at the following twelve national park sites can contact the National Recreation Reservation Service at www.ReserveUSA.com and through the call center at (877) 444-6777:
Camping reservations at most of these facilities can now be made online. The remainder of the parks mentioned above will become available for reservations throughout the rest of November and December. Soon campers also will be able to make advance reservations for campsites at the New Melones Lake, managed by the Bureau of Reclamation. In January 2004, reservations will become available at the following Bureau of Land Management sites in Oregon:
The process for making reservations for campgrounds and tours at additional national parks, historic sites, and monuments will be integrated with the reservations for campgrounds at U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and U.S. Forest Service sites. (For details, see www.recreation.gov.) The Bureau of Land Management and the Bureau of Reclamation also will be joining the National Recreation Reservation Service. This integration is part of the "electronic government" initiative to simplify how citizens can perform various activities-in this case, making camping and tour reservations at federal recreation areas. As an integral part of the President's Management Agenda, the E-Gov initiatives make it easier for citizens and businesses to interact with the government, save taxpayer dollars, and streamline citizen-to-government transactions. For more information on each of the President's E-Government initiatives, please visit www.egov.gov. For the next year, most national parks will continue to use the National Park Reservation Service (NPRS). That service is available at http://reservations.nps.gov or by calling (800) 365-2267 for camping reservations, (800) 436-7275 for Yosemite reservations only, and (800) 967-2283 for tour reservations. Parks that will continue to use the separate National Park Reservation Service in 2004 include:
