Honoring Law Enforcement Officers at Interior

National Police Week is a time to recognize all law enforcement officers. Across Interior, over 3,500 law enforcement officers safeguard lives, protect our national treasures, defend wildlife, and preserve the natural and cultural resources entrusted to the Department.

Interior’s law enforcement agencies are critical to protecting public safety and ensuring that we can fulfill our promise to protect America’s resources, honor our commitments to Tribal Nations and preserve treasured places for generations to come.

Officers at Interior serve as first responders to wildfires, hurricanes, victim support, wildlife trafficking, and protecting everyone on public and Tribal lands at seven separate operational law enforcement programs.

This year has taken a toll on our Interior law enforcement family. We appreciate the dedicated and courageous officers who worked the front lines during the height of the pandemic, and we also mourn those we lost in the line of duty as well as those lost to COVID-19.

This National Police Week, we honor the law enforcement officers who gave the ultimate sacrifice to uphold the Department’s mission and celebrate the work of our officers at Interior. Thank you for everything you do.
