In preparation for the upcoming 2024 election season, we wanted to highlight a video created by our colleagues at the U.S. Office of Special Counsel (OSC) on the Hatch Act, which is the law that governs the political activities of Federal employees.
The video, Hatch Act: Overview, provides information on the history and purposes behind the Hatch Act. The video also explains who is covered by the Hatch Act and what activities are generally permitted and prohibited under the Hatch Act for different types of employees.
The Department of the Interior's Departmental Ethics Office will be sharing additional resources and information on the Hatch Act as we get closer to Election Day. If you have any questions about how the Hatch Act would apply to your political activities this election season, please contact an ethics official for guidance.
