Doug Burgum, the 55th U.S. Secretary of the Interior, is a North Dakota native whose career spans entrepreneurship, technology and public service. After working his way through North Dakota State University and earning an MBA from Stanford, he mortgaged farmland to invest in Great Plains Software, which he led to a successful IPO and eventual acquisition by Microsoft. He later co-founded Arthur Ventures and chaired several global tech firms. Elected North Dakota’s governor in 2016 and re-elected in 2020, Burgum championed tax cuts, deregulation and carbon-neutral energy innovation. Named “America’s Best Entrepreneurial Governor” by Forbes, he helped North Dakota achieve record GDP growth and the nation’s lowest unemployment rate. In 2025, he was appointed Secretary of the Interior under President Trump.

Deputy Secretary of the Interior

Kate MacGregor serves as the Deputy Secretary of the U.S. Department of the Interior. A Pennsylvania native, she previously held this role in the first Trump Administration and was reappointed in 2025. Kate has led key efforts to expand American energy production, improve permitting and strengthen partnerships with Tribes and local communities. She previously served as Vice President at NextEra Energy and held senior staff roles in Congress. She holds a degree from the University of Pennsylvania and is an avid rower.
