WASHINGTON – Today, the U.S. Department of the Interior announced that the Civil War Trust has been selected as the nonprofit partner that will serve as Administrative Secretariat for the United States Semiquincentennial Commission.

The Commission was established by an act of Congress in 2016 to coordinate and facilitate activities in 2026 to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States. The Civil War Trust was selected using a competitive process and will raise funds for the Commission’s work and prepare reports to Congress.

A selection panel evaluated proposals from several organizations and recommended the Civil War Trust to the Secretary of the Interior, who made the final selection.

“The Civil War Trust has distinguished itself in fundraising and managing high profile commemorative events, and that expertise will be invaluable to the U.S.A. 250th Commemoration planning efforts,” said U.S. Secretary of the Interior Ryan Zinke.

The Civil War Trust is a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization dedicated to the preservation of America’s hallowed battlegrounds. The Trust seeks to preserve battlefields connected to the Revolutionary War, the War of 1812, and the Civil War.
