DOI Federal Employee Viewpoint Survey

The Federal Employee Viewpoint Survey (FEVS) is an annual tool for employees to share their perceptions about their work experiences, their agency, and leadership. Employee feedback is voluntary, confidential, and anonymous.

FY 2024 FEVS at a Glance:

The 2024 FEVS was administered by the U.S. Office of Personnel Management (OPM) on behalf of the Department of the Interior (DOI). The survey was open from May 20, 2024, through July 5, 2024, to a full census of the DOI workforce, rather than a sample population.

  • 60,393 DOI employees received the survey.
  • 36,374 employees responded.
  • 60% DOI response rate compared to 41% governmentwide.
  • Four of the five indices increased, and one remained consistent from 2023.

The Department’s Employee Engagement Index (EEI) score is 73% - an increase of 1% from 2023 and 3% from 2022. The EEI measures the extent to which an agency created an environment conducive to high employee satisfaction with their job and commitment to the organization and mission.

The Department’s Global Satisfaction Index (GSI) score increased by 1% from last year with 66% positive response. The GSI measures employees’ satisfaction with their job, pay, and the organization.

The Department’s Performance Confidence Index (PCI) score is 85% and remained consistent with the 2023 positive response rate. The PCI measures employees’ belief that their work unit improved in processes, product, services, outcome, and organizational achievements.

The Department’s Employee Experience Index is 78% and increased by 1% from 2023. Employee Experience is comprised of five questions that represent the employee’s lived experience and journey with the organization – how they feel about their job, their attachment to the organization and the mission, and how they understand their work to contribute to the mission.

Your Feedback is Our Future!

Feedback from the FEVS continues to inform opportunities for positive change and enhance the employee experience. The Department is focused on the below three priority areas and focused efforts to achieve associated goals and outcomes.

  1. Priority 1 – Enhance leadership engagement and improve the Employee Engagement Leaders Lead sub-factor.
  2. Priority 2 – Improve recognition and retention strategies and retain top talent.
  3. Priority 3 – Act on the FEVS results.
