Interior Highlights Record U.S. Energy Production Under President Trump’s American Energy Dominance Agenda

The Department of the Interior today announced that U.S. energy production reached record levels in 2025, with offshore oil production totaling over 714 million barrels, the highest annual output on record. 

“President Trump has made it clear that America should fully develop its abundant energy resources in a way that strengthens our economy and benefits American families,” said Secretary of the Interior Doug Burgum. “By providing regulatory certainty, streamlining processes and encouraging responsible development, this administration is unlocking the full potential of our domestic energy resources—supporting job creation, lowering energy prices, strengthening energy security and maintaining strong safety and environmental protections.” 

Since the start of President Trump’s second term, the administration has focused on strengthening America’s Energy Dominance and economic competitiveness by encouraging responsible production of domestic resources on federal lands and waters. 

Interior officials note that policy changes aimed at improving regulatory efficiency and providing greater certainty for energy developers have helped accelerate investment in offshore projects, particularly in the Gulf of America, while maintaining strong environmental safeguards and operational oversight. 

The Department oversees offshore energy development through agencies including the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management, which manages leasing and planning, and the Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement, which enforces safety and environmental standards. 

Recent offshore developments and new projects entering production have driven record output levels, particularly in deepwater areas in the Gulf of America. The 2025 total surpasses all previous annual production levels, reinforcing the United States’ position as a global energy leader. 

Continued investment in advanced technologies and modern offshore infrastructure is expected to support sustained production.
