Enterprise Risk Management

The Office of Planning and Performance Management leads the Department of the Interior's Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) program supporting requirements in the Government Performance and Results Act Modernization Act of 2010 and the Federal Agency Performance Act of 2024. The Office Director serves as the Department’s Chief Risk Officer.

The ERM program integrates risk management with strategic planning, performance management, evidence-building, program and project management, and annual strategic reviews. The program identifies, assesses, prioritizes, and monitors risks that could affect the Department's strategic objectives, mission delivery, operations, compliance, and public trust. This approach supports risk-informed decision-making, prioritization of resources, and development of strategies to manage emerging challenges.
