The Interagency Council on Statistical Policy (ICSP) Mentoring Program

The Interagency Council on Statistical Policy (ICSP) Mentoring Program helps ICSP member agencies share their expertise and skills. The main goals of the program are to help the participants grow in their careers and to build connections between ICSP member agencies, units, and programs. Every year, between 8 to 12 agencies participate. Each participating agency selects employees to serve as mentees or mentors. The program is virtual and open to federal employees whose work involves data and statistics, such as statisticians, economists, demographers, and data scientists. We will celebrate the program’s 10-year anniversary in 2025! The 2024 cohort included 42 participants from 11 agencies, including 3 mentors and 3 mentees from DOI.

The 2024 program included 15 engaging events, such as:

  • A CliftonStrengths Discovery Session to identify areas of talent and potential

  • An Innovation Lightning Round, featuring presentations on novel projects and programs

  • A Blazing into the Future Leadership Panel Event, where senior leaders shared their career paths and lessons learned

  • Mentee & Mentor Networking Sessions, with participant-selected discussion topics

  • Optional in-person events, including a dinner networking event, a Department of the Interior Museum and mural tour, a Lock Up Event at the National Agricultural Statistics Service, and the Federal Committee on Statistical Methodology Research and Policy Conference

DOI mentors are not paired to DOI mentees, but we hold several DOI participant events to build and strengthen statistical relationships within Interior.

Applications are due February 28th. Participants must attend two mandatory introductory session from 1-3:30pm EST on March 19 and 20.
