President Donald J. Trump announced the nomination of William Perry Pendley to be the Director of the Bureau of Land Management at the U.S. Department of the Interior. U.S. Secretary of the Interior David L. Bernhardt applauded the nomination.

Secretary Bernhardt announced the publication of the final environmental impact statement (EIS) for a new National Petroleum Reserve in Alaska (NPR-A) Integrated Activity Plan (IAP).

The John Hope Franklin Reconciliation Park features Hope Plaza and the Tower of Reconciliation, memorializing the history of African Americans in Oklahoma, including the lives lost at the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre, with the goal of transforming years of racial division into a hopeful future of reconciliation and cooperation for Tulsa and the Nation.

The Bureau of Land Management welcomes feedback from the public on the proposed rules, which are the product of extensive collaboration between the BLM, the Bureau of Indian Affairs, the Department of Defense, and the Department of Veterans Affairs, as well as Alaska Native organizations.

In light of tonight’s events at Lafayette Square in Washington, D.C., U.S. Secretary of the Interior David L. Bernhardt issues the following statement:

The Department manages over 500 million acres of public lands, and the overwhelming majority is accessible for the public to enjoy. More than three-fourths of National Park Service units are accessible to the public, providing recreation opportunities.

Our national parks are in dire need of repairs. After decades of administrations and Congress paying lip service while kicking the can down the road, President Trump took bold action and provided unprecedented support for Congress to fix the aging infrastructure at our national parks and to simultaneously and permanently fund conservation projects.

Secretary Bernhardt traveled along the Gulf Coast where he conducted several site inspections of National Park Service and U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service units, met with the hardworking staff, participated in a prescribed burn and visited with local outdoor recreation businesses. 

Secretary Bernhardt announced $32.8 million in grants – with an additional non-federal match of $21.9 million – for states and communities to support outdoor recreation and help boaters keep America’s waters clean.

The Department of the Interior announced steps to improve water management by finalizing the transfer of ownership of two federal water projects in Utah to local water user organizations.
