The Department of the Interior (DOI) announced today the Department's accomplishments in meeting the Trump Administration’s goals for reducing vegetation to lower wildfire risk and restore federal lands damaged by wildfires.

In support of President Donald J. Trump’s America-First Offshore Energy Strategy, Interior’s Assistant Secretary for Land and Minerals Management Joe Balash and Bureau of Ocean Energy Management Acting Director Walter Cruickshank today announced that BOEM proposes to offer 78 million acres for a region-wide lease sale scheduled for August 2019.

The bill was made up of more than 100 individual bills that were introduced by 50 Senators and several House members. The Interior Department had advocated for in concept or worked with Members of Congress on many of the individual provisions that made up the package. 

Today, President Donald J. Trump proposed a $12.6 billion Fiscal Year (FY) 2020 budget for the Department of the Interior.

“President Trump’s 2020 budget request is an effort to restore fiscal sanity in Washington. In doing so, the Department of the Interior’s Fiscal Year 2020 budget request strikes a reasonable balance and includes several important legislative proposals to address longstanding problems like the National Park Service’s maintenance backlog.

Today, Acting Secretary of the Interior David Bernhardt announced that through continued implementation of Secretarial Order 3362, “Improving Habitat Quality in Western Big-Game Winter Range and Migration Corridors” $1.5 million in private land habitat projects were approved. The funding and technical support is provided by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Partners for Fish and Wildlife program.

Today, Acting U.S. Secretary of the Interior David Bernhardt applauded President Donald J. Trump’s announcement that he intends to nominate Daniel Jorjani to serve as Solicitor of the Department of the Interior.

Acting U.S. Secretary of the Interior David Bernhardt on Wednesday, February 20 visited Martin Luther King, Jr. National Historical Park to underscore the importance of donation partnerships and view the newly acquired properties.

The Bureau of Land Management has finalized the purchase of more than four miles of land along the Madison River for public use. The 307.57-acre purchase was completed using funding from the Land and Water Conservation Fund and lies 23 miles south of Ennis, Montana.
