Statement by Secretary Salazar and Director Jarvis on National Park Service Actions at McPherson Square and Freedom Plaza

Washington, D.C. – Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar and National Park Service (NPS) Director Jon Jarvis today issued the following statement commending NPS U.S. Park Police officers and NPS personnel who have been working to ensure that demonstrations in McPherson Square and Freedom Plaza are conducted safely and in compliance with laws and regulations:

“We commend the professionalism of the National Park Service officers and personnel who have worked diligently to ensure the safety and security of the public, while upholding the Constitutional rights of demonstrators in our nation's capital. We are proud of the patience, discipline, and training they have exhibited throughout. Our thoughts and prayers are with the lieutenant who was assaulted and injured, and we wish him a speedy and full recovery.”
