WASHINGTON – U.S. President Donald J. Trump today proposed $619 million for the U.S. Department of the Interior’s Office of Insular Affairs (OIA) fiscal year (FY) 2021 budget for the benefit of fellow Americans in the U.S. territories of American Samoa, the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, Guam, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. The proposal also includes funding for U.S. allies in the Pacific who have a Compact of Free Association with the United States – the Federated States of Micronesia, the Republic of the Marshall Islands, and the Republic of Palau. The FY 2021 OIA budget proposal includes $89.2 million in current appropriations and $530.0 million in permanent funding.
“The 2021 budget request prioritizes the Department’s mission to fulfill our insular area responsibilities in the Pacific as well as in the Caribbean,” said Douglas W. Domenech, Assistant Secretary of the Interior, Insular and International Affairs. “This funding request exemplifies President Trump and Secretary Bernhardt’s continued support for the U.S. territories and the freely associated states.”
A list of accomplishments and actions demonstrating the administration’s strong commitment to the U.S. insular areas in 2019 can be found on the Office of Insular Affairs website.
