Forecast

Federal Agencies are required, by Public Law 100-656, the Business Opportunity Development Reform Act of 1988, to to compile and make available projections of contracting opportunities that small and small disadvantaged firms may be able to perform.  The Department's Forecast of Contract Opportunities includes projections of anticipated contracts above the simplified acquisition threshold that small businesses may be able to perform. The Forecast of Contract Opportunities is updated annually, at the beginning of the fiscal year (October). The Department of the Interior uses the GSA Acquisition Gateway to post the forecast, which can be accessed here and through the link below.

Marketing Your Capabilities

The Department of the Interior has Small Business Specialists strategically positioned throughout the Department and across the nation to assist small businesses gain access to program managers and other procurement decision makers.  Our small business specialists are your direct contact for information regarding present and future solicitations or procurement opportunities.

We recommend that you contact our Small Business Specialists and begin building positive relationships and inquire about procurement opportunities.  Introduce yourself and/or company to our Small Business Specialists  by sending an email or requesting a meeting to discuss your capabilities and how your company can assist their bureau/office and our agency in achieving its mission.  Please ensure that you have a suitable introduction letter and a capability statement that addresses the needs of that bureau or office you are seeking procurement opportunities.  Be specific in describing the capabilities of your firm and include your firm's prior experience, successfully completed government contracts, and references with contact information.

Tips on Getting A Contract

  • Know your business inside out and out as it relates to Federal and Interior requirements, to articulate effectively what it is you have to offer.
  • Know your advantages as a small business, many contracts are set-aside just for you!
  • Businesses seeking to do business with the federal government must be registered in the System for Award Management (SAM.gov).
  • Stay connected to www.SAM.gov for contract opportunities, solicitations, notices and events.
  • Learn about the federal acquisition system by visiting the Small Business Administration's website.
  • Become thoroughly familiar with the Federal agencies, their components and their missions.
  • Build positive relationships with government decision makers; attend outreach and networking events.
