Early Detection and Rapid Response

Early detection and rapid response (EDRR) to invasive species is the most cost-effective management strategy if prevention fails. Recognizing the importance of EDRR, the National Invasive Species Council (NISC) is playing a central coordinating role in advancing the National EDRR Framework through sustained interagency leadership, planning, and implementation support. The National EDRR Framework is strengthening detection and response to invasive species across jurisdictional boundaries.

NISC helped drive the development and refinement of Framework guidance, surveillance workflows, and communication strategies. NISC is facilitating partner engagement, integrating feedback across agencies, and strengthening connections between Executive Branch departments.
